News Immersified (Round 3)

Legacy media is grappling with the challenge of attracting younger consumers. By creating an app based on a messenger platform with a range of interactive narrative choices we will use gamification to turn passive consumers into active users to increase engagement and user retention. Interactive storytelling in newsrooms has been held back by the fact that developing, designing and coding a project costs time and money. Our app will be open-source and free for journalists and newsrooms who want to use it to bring their stories this important audience segment.

UNICORN project (Round 3)

Lack of collaboration amongst publications has inhibited growth of news video in the German market. This resulted not from deliberate strategies or policies, but rather from technological limitations. Incompatible platforms, technical silos and workflows made it impossible for news organizations to quickly and efficiently share their videos with others. The UNICORN project address these shortcomings by empowering editors with an easy to use tool that provides them with one-stop access to all relevant videos and that abstracts technical complexities. Curated content can then be published to all platforms with one click.

VideoBite (Round 3)

So far it is not easy to ensure that all videos can be shared effectively across different Cofinas’ brands and that new digital journalistic original products can be easily created. We want to produce short video clips that can be used to complement the existing media associated to a news article, and not only as the starting point to a news article. With VideoBite we will implement mechanisms that allow us to associate online video content to text/image based articles by means of metadata relation and to generate new revenue streams based on online video content distribution through the digital channels of Cofina’s brands.
