The Master Graph - combining realtime data from audience, content and advertising (Round 6)

So far, data models in a data warehouse or in a data lake tend to proliferate into data swamps. Only by understanding the relationships of interconnect data can a true understanding of cause and effect emerge. But joining each individual data source and system under the strain of availability, quality and integration often requires a lot of resources and proves costly. Unifying and linking data in a graph helps us to overcome the limitations mentioned above. A unified methodology for querying deeper insight into the data allows organizations to easily establish data-driven processes.

Assets: Generate powerful insights for readers and journalists (Round 6)

From our own observations, rankings are the dominant data based format in the economics press. However, this format is usually already outdated once published. Its editorial life cycle is not at all compatible with its new digital existence where real-time prevails. With Assets, we want to transform rankings into a dynamic database that can become a real goldmine for our audience and an invaluable editorial product for our journalists.

Digitally enable bias detection in news articles (Round 6)

A single newsfact generates several news articles that often get coloured in the flavour of the writer, editor and publisher. On the other hand, readers have their own principles and values as well, often seeking for confirmation from like-minded people and news channels; at the risk of trapping themselves unintentionally in an echo chamber of their own making. Belga wants to help journalists, publishers, and communication professionals monitor, research, evaluate and monetise news media content by creating a platform that focuses on bias analysis and detection of published news from three perspectives: political direction, sentiment and factuality.

Pix.T: The Blockchain-Driven Marketplace (Round 6)

The direct monetary value of a digital photograph is approaching 0.0. The shift to online news consumption has put the craft and mission of photojournalism at existential risk, surviving for now on dwindling print-side budgets and NGO and corporate clients. Photojournalism urgently needs new business models that reconnect it with the digital news industry and creates real revenue for both.

Pilot MindTheFacts.com (Round 6)

Language bubbles in Europe have been a barrier that has blocked the development of a pan-European platform that covers news from different countries. There wasn’t enough willingness to pay for digital news to make such effort feasible. That has changed since the rise of fake news. Journalists from all European countries can publish their content on MindTheFacts.com to reach an international paying audience. All content must be produced by the principles of the Conduct of Journalism as truth-finding as that is the most important value in modern day journalism and one of the most important things consumers are willing to pay for.

Brid - hybrid co-funding journalism platform (Round 6)

GLOB360 / naTemat.pl would like to tackle the challenge of persuading readers of free website into co-funding quality journalism. They don’t want to pursue "we just need your money" approach as they believe that readers should be involved into decision-making process first and that funding campaigning should be built around that readers/newsroom relationship.

Great reading experience (Round 6)

Online readers are constantly tempted by new experiences on numerous websites and news feeds. But instead of satisfaction coming from deeper understanding, they often experience weariness. On the other hand, reading in-depth articles on small screens can be discouraging, as it requires not only attention focus but it usually comes with usability issues. Polityka will offer comfortable reading of longer texts, develop a set of tools for readers and new methods of editing and presenting content - all of that to match the interests and reading style of demanding readers.

LegislationFILEapp (Round 6)

Currently, there is no comprehensive and viable tool in Poland to find information about specific bills, hence the legislative process is not transparent enough and many find it too complex. The LegislationFILEapp will facilitate day-to-day work of reporters who cover policy and the legislative process, as well as businesses (e.g. consultants) and other interested parties. It will also help to make the legislative process more transparent and appealing to general public by breaking down the complex process into accessible, interactive content.

WP Blast (Round 6)

Young people tend to use phrases such as “tap”, “swipe”, “skip” and “skim-reading”, which describe activities that play a huge role in the modern process of acquiring information by the Millennials and Generation Z. Currently, no Polish media publisher reflects the aforementioned needs of young readers. Everyone is constantly focused on providing universal and traditional news formats. In response, Wirtualna Polska would like to offer WP Blast, which will change the way young readers consume content and the type of it. We would like to help the young people to open to a qualitative journalism and go out of social filter bubbles.
