Germany Project type: prototype Big Data Analytics Group at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg

Summary

Within this project, a prototype will be developed that brings written news articles from the web or print to smart speakers. A word processor component will enable journalists to semi-automatically adapt a text for a good user experience when read out by a smart speaker. A conversational smart speaker application will support an engaging news consumption with the possibility to ask for background information, etc.

The solution

Bringing written news to smart speakers requires expertise and often time-consuming adaptations to a text - obstacles in particular for smaller news publishers. To simplify this process, a system will be developed with "spell checker" inspired suggested text transformations, to make some news articles easier to read out in a smart speaker environment. Furthermore, the system will provide a ready-to-use but adaptable conversational interface allowing a user to engage with the news by filtering articles, retrieving related news, or asking for background information.
