Ownership Project (Round 3)

Hungary Project type: prototype Center for Media, Data and Society at the Central European University, Budapest Hungary

The Ownership Project is a simple, searchable and filterable visualised tool for tracking, monitoring and analysing the changes in ownership of the Hungarian media. With our tool it will be easy to identify political ties, favouritism and interest groups of the Hungarian media landscape adding data of revenues, profits and state advertising incomes.

The solution

Political influence, oligarchism, favouritism and tax evasion became very common in Hungary’s media landscape in parallel with the political changes. We would like to see clearly the connections between political links and revenues, profitability and market shares for analysis and policy making purposes.
