Meet the Google team at NPAA

Ashley Edwards

US Partnerships Manager, News Lab

Ashley leads training initiatives in the U.S., working with local publishers, colleges, universities, and journalistic associations to train journalists and students on Google tools and resources. She also leads misinformation and media literacy programs focused for Gen Z and the next generation of journalists. She is passionate about diversity in news media and has promoted this through her involvement in media literacy and inclusion programs.

Before Google, she worked as a journalist and editor at publications like Refinery29, the New York Daily News, and PIX11 News. She has her own blog, where she writes about beauty and culture. She has her own blog, AisleOneBeauty.com, where she writes about natural hair, beauty, and culture.

Tina Xiao

Global Program Manager

Tina curates the Google News Initiative’s Best Practices on how to grow audiences and revenue from Google’s work with thousands of publishers globally.

Before Google, Tina worked in Strategy at ABC News, helping executives grow ABCNews.com, FiveThirtyEight, streaming, podcasts, and broadcast. She received an Emmy nomination for Their Painful Bond: Black Mothers Speak Out Together on Their Unimaginable Loss, piloting ABC’s first use of video teleconferencing for longform digital interviews.

Tina also co-founded Flashlight, the first giving circle to fund journalism and a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit.

Chrissy Towle

Director, News Partnerships, Americas Ecosystem and Associations

Chrissy Towle is a Google veteran having just entered her 17th year at Google. Chrissy oversees a team at Google whose focus is collaborating with news associations and organizations to bring the best of Google products and programs to news partners and promote sustainability within the local news industry.

Chrissy’s passion for news started in college where she graduated with a degree in Communication and Journalism from Santa Clara University. Chrissy furthered her education at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. She spent her first 8 years at Google working in Business Development on the Google Ads team.

Prior to Google, Chrissy worked for Young’s Market Company as a national seller for premium wine and spirits. Chrissy continues to serve on the board of the Athletic Department at Santa Clara University. Chrissy lives in San Francisco with her two sons and firefighter husband.
