Dainik Bhaskar

Leading Hindi publisher improves video engagement

Dainik Bhaskar's new Video Tools have been adopted by 86% of the newsroom, increasing Newsroom satisfaction (CSAT) by 4X for Video Producers/Editors and 10X for Reporters

The Challenge

Dainik Bhaskar is a leading* print media company of India, publishing 43 editions of Dainik Bhaskar Newspaper (Hindi Daily), 8 editions of Divya Bhaskar Newspaper (Gujarati Daily), 6 editions of Divya Marathi Newspaper (Marathi Daily) and 211 sub-editions in three languages (Hindi, Gujarati and Marathi) in 12 states in India. Dainik Bhaskar has presence in 12 states with 61 editions in 3 different languages– Hindi, Gujarati and Marathi.

The Dainik Bhaskar product and engineering team have focused on growing an organic, highly engaged and loyal digital-user-base, who access their diverse digital properties and consume well-reported and fact-checked quality content daily.

Video is one of the most popular formats for the India Tiers 1, 2 and 3 (Bharat) market**. Dainik Bhaskar believes that users nowadays prefer to consume content in video and visual formats along with text formats. Dainik Bhaskar's large team of journalists and reporters specialize in text content due to their Print background, however, the digital newsrooms needed to adopt a Video inclusive approach alongside text-based-formats to reach and engage with a much larger audience.

The process for Video News creation for journalists and reporters was manual, inefficient and cumbersome, leading to a suboptimal end-user experience due to a delay in the creation and availability of video news content.

Dainik Bhaskar found that existing solutions in the market were neither designed nor sufficient for their needs as a Digital-first newsroom.

The Results

To address this challenge, Dainik Bhaskar set out to build a Video & Graphics DAM (digital asset management) solution which would be customized for their internal teams, allowing them to create and collaborate on very high quality video news content quickly and efficiently. This enabled the Newsroom to spend a majority of their time on high quality video journalism instead of coordination and logistical issues.

In 2023 in partnership with Google, Dainik Bhaskar explored, developed and integrated tools that help geographically distributed reporting and video editing teams to seamlessly collaborate and create high-quality videos for consumers in almost real-time by:

1. Helping reporters in the field to work closely with video editors seated at the main office.

2. Enabling seamless upload of a large volume of raw videos shot from the location of the news

3. Sharing and access of footage which is tagged and easily searchable to improve future content creation.

This resulted in a Video & Graphics DAM (digital asset management) solution that was mobile friendly and extensible giving Dainik Bhaskar the flexibility to factor in deeper integrations with the CMS (content management system) in the future and build other internal tools for a seamless experience across cross functional teams in and beyond the newsroom.

86% of Reporters, Video Producers and Editors adopted the Video DAM solution with Digital Newsroom CSAT* increasing 4 times for Video Producers/Editors and 10 times for Reporters.

*Dainik Bhaskar tracked the feedback from the Editors Trained in the Digital Newsroom before and after the deployment and use of the tools using a Customer Satisfaction Survey (CSAT).

  • 4X improvement in Digital Newsroom CSAT for Video Producers/Editors
  • 86% of the Newsroom adopted the Video DAM solution
  • +4.8% increase of Video Time spent by users on the Dainik Bhaskar App post launch of this Tool
