Denmark Project type: prototype Videnskab.dk

Summary

The Science Quality Marker combines science and journalism to deliver a new and original tool to sort good science from bad science in the media.

The solution

Results from scientific publications form the basis of many news stories in online media. But often with sensational headlines and conclusions that do not match the actual science behind it. The problem is that a lot of science in the media is of bad quality and sometimes even fake. So videnskab.dk has developed a set of ‘markers’ that can be used to sort good science from bad. With this prototype project they want to examine how this different data could be collected in a technology assisted way – and how the data can be visualised for users, allowing them to judge the quality of the science behind the headlines. In this first prototype a database and program of automated tools will be designed to gather information from journal sites.
