A local news site to forge deeper connections in Chula Vista

Chula Vista Today

As a lifelong Chula Vista, California, resident, I remember walking through Third Avenue with my sister and eating at La Bella’s Pizza. Community businesses are the fabric of a city and their importance was always impressed upon me. And that’s what has led me to be so passionate about our work at Chula Vista Today, which launched October 4.

Our goal is to provide the residents of and visitors to Chula Vista with a trusted source for reliable news that fosters connectedness and improves lives through information. Our website, ChulaVistaToday.com, is an online news platform that focuses on both breaking and deep dive news that impacts the community of Chula Vista.

Our team of local reporters understand and care about this amazing city - and want to find the stories that speak to everyone from families to local businesses and visitors.

We are the second California partner of the Google News Initiative's Local Experiments Project, which seeks to support new and diverse models for journalism by investing in local, digital news ventures. The GNI team’s support has been instrumental in helping to build a strong platform to carry out our mission. Google does not have involvement or influence on any aspect of our editorial work.

Chula Vista Today is part of the San Diego-based Latina and Associates, Inc., a family of publications, including El Latino, the largest Latina-owned Spanish-language newspaper in California, and Celebrando Latinas magazine. CEO Fanny Miller founded El Latino in 1988 with a mission to cover the stories that impact the Hispanic Community and this new venture allows us to expand and serve the multicultural community. “We have found that it is the people who make the communities and support our businesses,” said Miller. “I am very proud to launch this project that will no doubt have a positive impact on the region as a whole.”

A key part of that impact are thriving local businesses. Chula Vista is a family-focused city. Whether we celebrate the holidays with our Starlight Parade, or bring people together during our Beautify Chula Vista citywide clean-up, this is a city with a strong sense of community. With this in mind, we have created products that allow local businesses to reach their intended market with the strength of our reach at a much more affordable cost. This includes our Community Leadership Program, where businesses big and small have the opportunity to reach their customers and show their commitment to the community by supporting resource driven content.Corporations can also benefit from advertising in this hyperlocal, highly visible platform with Spotlights, Banners, and social media promotion.
