A more informed world has always been core to Google's mission.

We believe that everyone, everywhere should be able to access a diversity of credible sources to get the information they need. That starts with a news industry that gives every community a voice.

Fostering a community for news

We're dedicated to working with the news industry so that global newsrooms and local papers alike can flourish.

  • Google

Google's mission is to organise the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful.

  • Google and the news industry

Over the past 20 years, we've collaborated closely with the news industry and provided billions of dollars to support the creation of quality journalism in the digital age.

  • The Google News Initiative

In 2018, we launched the Google News Initiative to scale our work with journalists, publishers and industry leaders in order to help build a resilient future for news around the globe.

  • Our partners

Alongside governments, civic and community leaders, and other companies, we're playing our part to make more reliable information more accessible.

The Google News Initiative continues to build upon Google's nearly 20-year commitment towards supporting the news industry.

We believe deeply in spreading knowledge to make life better for everyone. It's at the heart of Google's mission. It's the mission of publishers and journalists.

How GNI supports the news industry

Our decades-long dialogue and collaboration is focused on supporting journalists, strengthening publishers' business models and building a global news community.
