What are web notifications?

Web notifications let you bring information to your readers, even when they're not on your website. They generally help raise awareness about timely updates.

5–15% of readers enable web notifications. Targeted web notifications can get up to 25% click-through rates.

STEP 1

Decide if you want to build web notifications, or use a third party:

  • Build: Use Google Developers’ guide
  • Buy: Use a technology solution

STEP 2

Enable your reader’s web notifications by getting their permission and collecting information from their browser.

STEP 3

Send your first web notification! You can adjust:

  • Your message
  • Who to send the message to
  • When to send the message

💡Best practices:

  • Prompt readers to enable web notifications after they have read at least one article.
